Community Based Farmers Markets

South Carolina is blessed to have nearly 120 Community-Based Farmers Markets. Many of these local markets participate in the Farmers Market Nutrition Programs. Eligible recipients in the WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program and the Seniors Farmers Market Nutrition Programs are issued checks that can be used to buy fresh, unprepared fruits, vegetables and cooking herbs from farmers or farmers’ markets that have been approved to accept checks. The programs provide good wholesome foods to the people of our state who are nutritionally at risk, and they provide an additional market for our farmers.

Promotions that Sell Contest
The South Carolina Department of Agriculture is sponsoring a statewide contest, Promotions that Sell, to recognize effective display techniques at farmers markets around the state. All farmers market enthusiasts are invited to participate! The displays, featuring the Certified SC Grown branding campaign, must highlight
South Carolina agriculture products as presented at the market on a regular market day.
