Department of Agriculture Assessing Dorian’s Impact on SC Farms

COLUMBIA – Now that the immediate threat of Hurricane Dorian has passed, the South Carolina Department of Agriculture has begun assessing the extent of any agricultural losses as a result of the storm.

“We talked to farmers prior to the storm, and late Thursday we began reaching out to farmers in areas impacted by the hurricane to determine whether they’ve suffered any damages, and if so, the scope of the loss,” said Commissioner of Agriculture Hugh Weathers. “We’re already in communication with USDA and other partners, and we hope to have an initial assessment of any damage in the coming days.”
