Office of the Commissioner

The Office of the Commissioner consists of the Executive Assistant to the Commissioner and the Office of Government and Legal Affairs.

Government and Legal Affairs consists of an attorney who specializes in agricultural legal issues and provides general legal advice and statutory interpretations. The agency’s attorney reviews and updates over 30 laws under the authority of the SCDA. This includes analysis and comparison to other state and federal laws. The attorney also meets with groups to address possible legislative solutions to problems affecting their industries. This office also focuses on the implementation of new legislation falling under the authority of the SCDA. New legislation and statutory amendments are also considered for the purpose of making the operation of the agency more efficient as well as providing important laboratory analysis and consumer safety services for the general public, private entities, and other groups.
