South Carolina Farm to Institution 2nd Annual Summit Set for Greenville
GREENVILLE – Planting Seeds of Innovation will be the theme at the 2nd Annual South Carolina Farm to Institution Summit on August 28-29 at various upstate locations.
The purpose of the summit is to bring together key farm to institution partners to further encourage local procurement, reinforce healthy, local food education, and provide the skills to establish a garden, farmers market or community supported agriculture (CSA) program.
Pre-summit short courses on Tuesday, August 28 include an upstate farm tour of Cragmoor Farms, Thicketty Mountain Farms, and the Children’s Museum of the Upstate; a Parent-Child Interaction Garden course at A Child’s Haven, Inc.; a sustainable dining course at the Furman Farm and Bon Appetit kitchen; and an urban farming course by Mill Village Farms and FoodShare Greenville. The summit conference on August 29 will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Greenville, 220 North Main Street. Featured keynote speaker will be Stephanie Swackhamer, General Manager of Tiger Corner Farms in Summerville. The $10 summit ticket includes an evening reception on August 28 and a local breakfast and lunch on August 29.
