State Farmers Market Event Provides Fun for the Entire Family

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Are you looking for a great family activity this summer? Come out to the Market Pavilion at the State Farmers Market for Family Fun Day on Saturday, June 28 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Visit the Market Pavilion to shop for local products during the Grand Opening of Five Rivers Market, an indoor farmers and specialty market. Grab lunch in the building at Dupre at the Market, a restaurant that serves fresh, local dishes or from a food truck outside.

The South Carolina Department of Agriculture’s commodity boards will be passing out free samples of great Certified SC products. Enjoy a taste of local peanuts, peaches, watermelon, pork and beef, while supplies last.

AGAware, an AgSouth Farm Credit program designed to educate the next generation of farmers, is hosting “Counting Collards”, a demonstration booth that will feature learning stations to simulate agriculture lending, crop production and the crop sales experience in a fun, hands-on environment. There will also be a variety of games and other activities for children.

Join AgSouth for a Dedication Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. as they present a gift to the Market Pavilion. Speakers will include Commissioner of Agriculture, Hugh Weathers as well as Ronnie Summers and Van McCall with AgSouth Farm Credit.

For more information on the event contact Elizabeth Shuler at eshuler@scda.sc.gov or 803.734.0328. The State Farmers Market is located at 3483 Charleston Hwy., West Columbia.
