Pump Up Your Summer

COLUMBIA, S.C. – With the official start of the summer travel season just around the corner, vacationers will be hitting the roads across the Palmetto State. This summer, the South Carolina Department of Agriculture (SCDA) invites you to follow along to see how SCDA is working hard to “Pump Up Your Summer.”

The Consumer Protection Division – Consumer Services inspectors check the accuracy of weighing and measuring devices such as scales, gasoline dispensers, fuel oil meters, and LP gas meters, as well as the net content of packaged foods. Each year, inspectors test over 65,000 gas pumps statewide for accuracy. The department strives to perform a routine inspection on all pumps annually and will visit a station more often if a problem is reported or suspected.

South Carolina Agriculture Commissioner, Hugh Weathers said, “While we can’t control gas prices, we can make sure you’re getting the quality fuel you expect and that ‘a gallon is a gallon.’”

Follow along on the South Carolina Department of Agriculture Facebook page for a behind the scenes look at gasoline pump inspections, quality testing and other helpful hints to make the most of the summer travel season.
