FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – April 21, 2016

Register Now for the Agriculture Council’s Spring Farm Tour

COLUMBIA – Registration is now open for the South Carolina Agriculture Council’s spring farm tour scheduled for Friday, May 6, providing attendees an inside look at several farms, gardens and canneries across the state. The tour is open to the public and attendees must register by May 3, due to limited seating.

The day starts at Old McCaskill’s Farm in Rembert, where the visit may include daily chores, such as feeding the animals and preparing farm-to-table meals. Next, attendees will stop by Pearl Fryar’s Topiary Garden in Bishopville. Mr. Fryar is an internationally known topiary artist whose spectacular garden is unforgettable.

After touring the South Carolina Cotton Museum, guests will enjoy a boxed lunch before heading to McCall Farms in Effingham. This rare, behind-the-scenes tour will show how locally grown vegetables go from the field to the cannery. The day will finish off with a stop by Swan Lake in Sumter and then Cottle Strawberry Farm near Hopkins so tour-goers can pick their own berries to take home.

The $55 registration fee includes transportation, lunch, and snacks. Attendees must wear closed toe shoes. The tour will leave from the South Carolina Farm Bureau Federation building in West Columbia at 7:30 a.m. To register, contact Steve Slice at 803-360-2845 or scagriculturecouncil@gmail.com.
