Training Dates Set for SC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Farmers seeking authorization to participate in the South Carolina Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) can now register for training. The United States Department of Agriculture requires training for all farmers wishing to take part in the FMNP.

This program allows farmers to take Women Infant and Children (WIC) Vouchers as well as Senior Vouchers at authorized farmers markets and roadside stands.

Training date schedule:

  •  March 19, 2016 – State Farmers Market- Phillips Market Center, 117 Ballard Court, West Columbia
  •  March 15, 2016 – St. George Town Office, 225 Parler Avenue, St. George, SC
  •  March 23, 2016 – W.A. Carr Room at West End Hall, 135 Folger Avenue, Easley, SC
  •  March 24, 2016 – Historic Bean Market, 111 Henry Street, Lake City, SC

This year, only farmers new to the program are required to attend training. If a farmer attended the 2015 trainings, they will receive their 2016 information in the mail by mid-March.

Farmers are asked to come prepared with their 2016 crop plan for the training. All sessions will run from 9 a.m.- 12 p.m. To register, call the South Carolina Department of Agriculture at 803-734-2210.
