Commissioner Weathers Applauds Congressional Funding for Agricultural Flood Relief

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The much-debated year-end appropriations bill included millions in funding to help South Carolina cover losses associated with the recent historic flooding. The funds will be used to aid eligible homeowners and farmers.

Support from Senator Lindsey Graham and Representatives James Clyburn, Tom Rice and Joe Wilson was instrumental for the inclusion of federal dollars for farmers.

Farmers will also be eligible for funds secured for the Emergency Watershed Protection Program, the Emergency Forestry Restoration Program and the Emergency Conservation Program, all through the United States Department of Agriculture.

“We appreciate the leadership of our Congressional delegation to ensure this crucial funding was included in the spending bill. Congress stepped up to provide aid for South Carolina farmers and recognized the need to continue supporting the state’s #1 industry,” said South Carolina Agricultural Commissioner Hugh Weathers.
