Postharvest Handling for Wholesale Success Training Event Scheduled for January

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. – Lowcountry Local First and GrowFood Carolina are hosting a training event, “Postharvest Handling for Wholesale Success,” Wednesday, January 20, 2016 from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm at the Philips Market Center, 3501 Charleston Highway West Columbia, SC.

Attendees will have the chance to learn crop specific tools and recommendations for harvesting, washing, cooling and storing specialty crops. There will also be sessions on marketing, developing customized food safety plans and ways farmers can scale up to meet large buyer’s needs. Participants will receive a Wholesale Success Guide ($70 value).

Training is provided by GrowFood Carolina, the South Carolina Department of Agriculture, the United States Department of Agriculture and Lowcountry Local First, and funded through a specialty crop block grant program.
