South Carolina Agriculture Community to Feed Thanksgiving Meal to 173 Senior Centers Using Certified SC Grown Products

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture Hugh Weathers and Lt. Governor Yancey McGill announced today that the South Carolina agriculture community will provide Certified South Carolina grown products for a Thanksgiving meal to 173 senior centers across the state.

The announcement came Thursday morning during a press conference held at the South Carolina State House. Weathers and McGill discussed the importance of increasing access to Certified South Carolina Grown products to our state’s 940,000 senior citizens, which also create additional opportunities for South Carolina farmers.

“It is unique that South Carolina has the capability of producing everything you need for your holiday meal, from the sweet potatoes and the collards, to the peas and the poultry,” said Weathers. “The South Carolina Department of Agriculture is proud to be a part of this partnership that will provide local, fresh products for our senior citizens to enjoy. There is nothing fresher, nothing finer, than South Carolina grown products.”

Contributors to the meals include Adluh Flour, Carolina Fresh Foods, Gentrys Poultry, Gruber Family CSA Farm, McCall Farms, Walther Farms, Weathers Farms, and WP Rawl. Meals will be served during the month of November at the senior centers.
